AYYAPPA SEVA SAMGHAM BOMBAY (REGD.), established in the year 1973, is dedicated to serving the society in general by promoting “AYYAPPA BHAKTI”. It caters to the spiritual and religious needs of the devotees of Mumbai. With its record of dedicated service, the organization has earned a place of pride in the hearts of the people of this great metropolis. The Ayyappa Temple was built in the year 1983 under the direction on all technical aspects of the renowned Temple Architect Br. Shree Kanipayyur Krishnan Namboodiripad. The consecration of the presiding deities of Lord Ayyappan and Lord Guruvayurappan along with Lord Ganapathi, Goddess Devi, Lord Karthikeyan, Navagrahas, Lord Kiratha Shiva and Nagaraja&Nagayakshi were done by His Holiness Br. Shree Kantaru Maheshwararu Tantri, the Supreme Priest of the world famous Shabarimala temple. He is also the Supreme Priest or the “Tantri” of our temple. Off late, due to his old age and sickness, he has inducted his grandson Br. Shree Kantaru Mahesh Mohanararu who is now the Sabarimala supreme priest, as our temple Tantri.
Apart from celebrating all religious Hindu festivals, this temple hosts two important annual functions, the “Prathishta Day and Utsavam” in May and the “Mandalam Festival” in December. Along with daily Pujas, Bhajans, Religious Discourses, Saptahams by learned scholars, Narayaneeyam, Akhandanamam, Bhagavatha Parayanam, Gita Chanting and Special Pujas are held regularly. The Temple has over the years attained the status of a major pilgrimage centre. Two more shrines were added to the temple complex i.e. Kirathasiva and Naga Prathishta on 29th June 2014.
As a Public Charitable Trust, we undertake public services. We provide Medical and Educational assistance to the needy and deserving on a monthly basis. Notebooks and educational materials are distributed to school children every year. Annadanam / poor feeding are arranged on daily basis. We organize an Annual Medical Camp where not only we do arrange for consultation by eminent doctors but also provide medicines and spectacles free of charge to the needy. The Seva Samgham for its pursuit of attaining excellence in service to the society has recently been granted ISO 9001 : 2015 certification.
The Temple Annexe has a Community Hall building with three floors in use, where religious and social functions are held. We plan to develop this Community Hall to contain a Public Library and a Free Medical Aid Center. Towards this, we have already received the requisite permission from the concerned authorities for construction of upper floors. We also have plans to procure available land around the Temple Complex to expand our activities and services.
